FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK
Hello everyone, Looks like my hope for a repeat of last year’s lack of a smoky season has been dashed. That means my hope for a repeat of last year’s mild summer is probably also doomed, but I haven’t given up yet. Keep in mind we're heading into the warmest time of the year, March and April. April is usually the worst of it. It signals the end of the dry season, and while we’ll
hopefully get some rain now and then to cool things off and clear out the smoke for a day or two, the rainy season actually comes later here. It’s interesting how the rainy season progresses through Thailand as the year goes on, it’s definitely not the same everywhere. It typically starts with increasing storms in the far south in April, while Chiang Mai is still hot and pretty much dry. It ramps up considerably in the south along the west (Andaman) coast in
May, and the middle of the country—think Bangkok— starts getting frequent rain. We start getting more storms here as well, but still less than the rest of the country. June is a different story, with most of the country being fully into the monsoon season. We still get less rain than the rest of the country at this point, but it becomes very regular. July is wet all over the country except for northeast Thailand, which amazingly remains fairly dry, and now the southern areas
along the Gulf of Thailand see less rain as well. It’s also supposed to be cooler all over the country by this time, but I’ll bet a lot of folks would argue with that. August and September are the rainiest months pretty much everywhere except for southern Thailand, while northeast Thailand sees their heaviest rain. Then things start to change, mostly for the better, in October. Northern Thailand starts drying out, central Thailand improves somewhat, but now
the Gulf Coast south of Bangkok starts seeing significant rain. The pattern continues in November, with Chiang Mai becoming the delightful place it is for the rest of the year. Central Thailand says a bit warmer, but drier, and the rest of the country cools off as well. By December the entire country is in the dry season—hallelujah! On a more usual note, let me remind you of a couple things. The first one is the visit to Elephant Parade Land on the
17th. It’s an incredibly interesting place, with lots to see and do, including the chance to paint your own elephant—for free. I’m lucky, it’s in my neighborhood so I visit frequently, and it never gets old. We still need a few more people by the end of this week otherwise we’ll probably postpone it to a later date, so don’t wait too long and miss it. Scan the QR code below to reserve your spot…time’s running out! The other thing on the horizon is our
Expat Connection meeting on the 28th of this month. The program is outstanding, featuring an update by our friends at AIT on the income tax law to be implemented soon—maybe. We will also learn from a ophthalmologist from Bangkok Hospital about glaucoma, which is something most of us need to probably know more about, and a presentation on How to Avoid Being Scammed by Rick Hahn. Or should that be How to Avoid Being Scammed, by Rick Hahn? Take your pick. Finally, we
have a new sponsor, Serene Senior Care, who will be there to introduce themselves, and offer everyone a free blood pressure test…always a good thing to know. See below to purchase your tickets, I hope to see you there. -Kent
ELEPHANT PARADE LAND TOUR MARCH 17 Following our Expat Connection meeting last month, the Elephant Parade has kindly offered to host a private tour for our CEC Members and friends. See the factory, watch the
skilled artist's at work and enjoy the museum. If you're really brave, test your talent and paint your own elephant! Scan the QR code below for more information and to sign up. Only 25 spots available, don't procrastinate!

NEXT EXPAT CONNECTION - MARCH 28 DUANGTAWAN HOTEL - 3RD FLOOR 9:45 - 10:30 - Coffee/Tea/Snacks/Sponsors 10:30 - 12:00 Meeting
Thomas Carden, our trusted friend from American International Tax Advisers, will be joining us, and will be bringing another AIT expert on Thai tax issues, Miss Patcha Ingkudanonda. She will discuss the interpretation of Thai tax law regarding foreign income, ensuring that attendees comprehend that not all funds remitted into Thailand are subject to taxation. Additionally, she will clarify the tax
consequences associated with foreigners transferring money to a Thai spouse or partner. Her presentation will be grounded in practical insights derived from actual cases that have been reviewed and audited by the Thai Revenue Department. Consequently, attendees will gain knowledge of both Thai tax law and international tax treaties.
Also on the program, will be our resident scam avoidance artist, Rick Hahn. Scams have been around forever, "snake-oil salesman" and "smoke and mirrors" are terms from the 1800's. But now the scammers are much better - and have very sophisticated tools. They can find you from the other side of the world. Did you know that the scam Centers just a few hundred miles from here steal over $10
billion from the people of the United States alone? We'll show you how you can avoid becoming a victim.
We also have a speaker coming from Bangkok Hospital, Dr. Chompoonoot Kunaviktikul, to enlighten and educate us about glaucoma. It's definitely something we should all know more about, especially seniors. We've heard she will also be bringing a machine to give anyone a free test before the meeting. Don't worry, it's painless. Finally, please welcome a new sponsor, Serene
Senior Care. They will be there to meet and talk with us during coffee and snacks, and will bring a blood pressure machine in case you missed the last one, or just want a second opinion.
