FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK Hello everyone... Well, I hate to say it but summer is just around the corner, which means it will heat up a bit, the humidity will be more noticeable, and we’ll get storms now and then. They’re OK, welcome relief to the heat, and they help to clear out that pesky thing known as the “smoky season”.
I’m hoping for a summer like last year. It was the mildest in every sense of all the years I’ve lived here, and the best part was we never really had a smoky season. It just never materialized, but no one is sure why. I’m hoping the government had something to do with it, they say every year they have it figured out so if that’s the case this year should be just as smoke-free. We can all hope. Just in case though, make sure you have a
supply of 2.5 masks. There’s not much in the way of club things to share at this point, but I can tell you there are some ideas on the table for the next few months. I’ll leave it up to the event planners to share them when they’re ready. The first one is kind of cool, and it’s tentatively scheduled for March, so keep checking back for news. Don’t forget that today is Chinese New Year, I hope you’re able to get downtown and take in the spectacle
of the celebration. I’ll warn you, parking is tough, might be wise to take a Grab or something. Just be prepared for a wait, and a higher than normal price, but it’s definitely worth the time and effort. No matter where you are though, get ready for the fireworks. They’ll start in the early evening and go on well into the night. That’s it for now, except to say I trust everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. My valentine is a cute
little four-legged creature that barks a lot, loves everybody, is smart as a whip and makes me laugh. He is also the best early-warning system on the planet, just ask my neighborhood. Anyway, he’s special, and will always be my valentine. -Kent

NEXT EXPAT CONNECTION - MARCH 28 DUANGTAWAN HOTEL - 3RD FLOOR 9:45 - 10:30 - Coffee/Tea/Snacks/Sponsors 10:30 - 12:00 Meeting
The next Expat Connection will be Saturday, March 28, at the Duangtawan Hotel. Peter Bell is putting the final touches on the program, more details will be coming soon. Thomas Carden, our trusted friend from American International Tax Advisers, will be joining us, and will be bringing another AIT expert on Thai tax issues, Miss Patcha Ingkudanonda. She will expand
the discussion of the impending Thai tax law regarding foreign income, an issue which is near and dear to all of us. We’ll give you a more in-depth look at her presentation next week. Also on the program, will be our resident scam avoidance artist, Rick Hahn. As we all know, scams are prevalent in Thailand, and while the government is cracking down on them it's still smart to do our homework. Rick will give us a look at scams and how to detect and
avoid them. We also have a speaker coming from Bangkok Hospital. Details will be coming soon, but a little birdie said it has to do with vision related to seniors and aging. More on this next week. Tickets will go on sale next week as well, keep an eye out here.
