FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK Hello everyone... It’s tough enough to come up with things to write about every week, but lately it’s been twice as hard. We’ve been in major event mode for a couple of months now, seems like that’s all I’ve been talking about. With that said, let’s talk about our last event of the
high season, the Annual Family BBQ Picnic. It’s only a few days away, Saturday to be precise, and once again it will be our biggest event of the year. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, especially considering the weather will be perfect (hope I’m not jinxing it), the Horizon Resort is a fantastically beautiful place to spend the day, The Duke’s says this will be their best BBQ ever, and to top it off there will be friends, board games, live music and a bar. If that isn’t enough
we’ll also have our friends from Rotary doing their annual fundraiser for children’s charities, the Golf Ball Drop. You have to be there to truly understand the fun of watching those golf balls go flying as they hit the ground, particularly because part of the ground they hit is cement, which doesn’t slow golf balls down much! It’s all done from a full-size hot air balloon, which will also offer up-and-down rides during the day, 100 baht for adults, 50 baht for kids. Take a
ride, enjoy the thrill, and be sure to take a few pictures of the spectacular resort while you’re up there—it’s not a perspective people commonly see. There’s still time, check out the info below and use the button to buy your tickets. See you Saturday! Before I end this I wanted to take a minute and talk about the Expat Connection meeting last Saturday, which we combined with our Annual General Meeting. A big shout out to Peter Bell for another outstanding
meeting, with 2 excellent speakers—and I’m not talking about Rick and myself. Jeannette Bruske introduced us to the wonderful world of the Elephant Parade, and Simon Bradshaw gave us a great look at the housing situation in Chiang Mai, and how it has been impacted by Covid, among other things. They were great, thanks so much to both of them. There was also a really remarkable thing that I want to share. There was a motion before the members to make some
changes to our Constitution, and after a brief discussion the vote was taken. Such motions require a two-thirds majority to pass, which is a high bar for the right reasons. After holding our breath while the votes were counted, Rick announced the results: there was not a single “NO” vote. Amazingly, it was unanimous in favor, which none of us expected or probably even considered as a possibility. I feel very good about that, and the confidence people showed in us to
support us in that way. I speak for the entire board when I say ‘thank you’, we greatly appreciate it and will continue to do the best job we possibly can to keep things moving forward in a positive way. That’s it for this week, enjoy our wonderful weather while it lasts, and please be safe. -Kent

NEXT EXPAT CONNECTION - MARCH 28 DUANGTAWAN HOTEL - 3RD FLOOR 9:45 - 10:30 - Coffee/Tea/Snacks/Sponsors 10:30 - 12:00 Meeting
The next Expat Connection will be Saturday, March 28, at the Duangtawan Hotel. Peter Bell is putting the final touches on the program, more details will be coming soon. One thing we know for sure is Thomas Carden, who was originally scheduled to speak to us last November but had to postpone, will be one of our featured speakers. Thomas has expertly guided us through the
confusion about the income tax plan the Thai government announced 2 years ago, and his advice has turned out to be right on the money (no pun intended...OK, maybe a little). It's time for an update, don't miss it! Tickets will go on sale the end of February, keep an eye out here.
