FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK Hello everyone... The powers that be would shoot me if I didn’t use this opportunity to remind you of our upcoming events, and I will, but first I have something I want to share with you. I had the opportunity last week to join a group of students from the School for the Deaf on an outing to
Elephant Parade Land, the forever beating heart of the Elephant Parade. The idea was the brainchild of our own Peter Bell, who visits the school yearly with his Children’s Sight Project. During an earlier tour of Elephant Parade Land with Jeannette Bruske, who will be speaking to us this Saturday at our Expat Connection, he saw the room where visitors can give painting their own elephants their best shot and thought what a wonderful thing it would be to bring some of the students
there. If you know Peter at all you know once he had the idea it was not a matter of if, but when. Within days the arrangements had been made.
As one of the group of people who assist Peter —most, if not all, of us are CEC members —I eagerly accepted the offer to tag along. The Deaf School is my favorite of the many schools we work with and the chance to see the kids again and observe their artistic efforts was too much to pass up. It also just so
happens that Elephant Parade Land is only a short walk from my home and I frequently enjoy going there. Each time I’ve come away inspired on many levels, this particular time added one more very meaningful level to the long list. Prior to the trip the kids had been given a blank outline of the shape of the elephants they would be painting, and spent the days before the outing perfecting their designs. Once there, they were given a quick tour and then things got
serious. They were each given a blank white elephant, 5 different colors of paint, brushes, and 2 hours or so to create their masterpiece. They used every minute of it and to say the results were astonishing would be a serious understatement. There was a ton of talent in that group, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if some of them find their way back there someday as artists painting elephants for the millions of people around the planet who admire them and aspire to own
one. Before they left, the elephants were neatly boxed and became theirs to keep, to be proudly shown to friends and family, and serve as a lasting memory of a very unique experience at an incredibly unique place. Thanks Peter, from all the kids, and from us bigger kids who got to tag along. OK, sorry, but now I need to do a little business here. We’re only days away from our first Expat Connection meeting of the year this Saturday, see
more on that below. Buying your ticket ahead of time (use the button below) really helps us where food is concerned, but walk-ins are always welcome at Expat Connection meetings - it does cost a bit more though. Just one week later is our biggest event of the year, the Annual Family BBQ Picnic, once again at the incredible Horizon Village Resort. There’s more information below, and a button to purchase tickets. Because of the numbers involved it really helps to know if
you’re coming so please buy your ticket ahead of time if at all possible. Finally, reservations are now open for the next Saturday Breakfast of February 7th. I suspect this might be the biggest one ever, don’t take any chances, make your reservations now. That’s it for this week, please be safe, and I hope to see you this Saturday. -Kent

NEXT EXPAT CONNECTION - JANUARY 24 DUANGTAWAN HOTEL - 3RD FLOOR 9:45 - 10:30 - Coffee/Tea/Snacks/Sponsors 10:30 - 12:00 Meeting
Our next Expat Connection this Saturday, January 24, is a mix of information, inspiration and vision. From a look inside one of the most fascinating businesses in Chiang Mai to one of its most dynamic, we’re in for a treat. First up, we will hear from Jeannette Bruske, General Manager for Asia and the Middle East for the Elephant Parade. She'll give us a look inside one of the
most incredible businesses you can imagine. It all began from a tragedy and became a labor of love reaching every corner of the world. If you’re looking for inspiration and beauty, you’ll enjoy the story of Chiang Mai's very own Elephant Parade. Next will be a familiar face to many of us, Simon Bradshaw, the General Manager of Perfect Homes. Simon has spoken to us a few times in the past and knows more about real estate in Chiang Mai than just about anybody. He’s
also been a sponsor of the CEC for many years. He’s always interesting, and knows the local market inside and out. If you have a specific need or question this is a golden opportunity to learn from an expert. We'll also cover some event updates, and then we'll finish with the Annual General Meeting. We’re going to keep it short, but it will be packed with answers to questions many of you have asked recently, and also give you look at what’s ahead. And
then there’s a motion before the members to make a few changes to our Constitution that we need your help with. There won’t be a dull moment, use the button below to get your tickets and join us for what promises to be a memorable morning. We hope to see you there!
