Let’s face it, our last Christmas Party fell short of expectations. The Melia was a fabulous venue, and the service, as usual, was exceptional, but the food did not rise to the occasion. It wasn’t the Melia’s fault, the blame for it belongs totally on the shoulders of Dave McComas and myself. We took a gamble, made some unusual choices, and crossed our fingers they would be a hit. They
weren’t, and I’ve been hearing about it ever since. Lesson learned.
That was 2023, this is 2025, and things are definitely going to be different, very different. The venue will be the same, the beautiful Melia Chiang Mai, but we won’t be in the ballroom this time. Instead, we’ll be in the spectacular Khom Room, which some of you may remember from a couple of our General Meetings there. If you’re not familiar with it, the Khom Room is a stunning
glass-walled room on a spectacular patio that stretches along the entire side of the 7th floor of the hotel. It’s an enchanting space in the daytime, at night it’s magical. On December 11th it will be all ours to enjoy.
We also stepped up the entertainment, hiring a top-notch ensemble featuring soft Christmas music during dinner, and after dinner they’ll be playing popular oldies from when most of us weren’t so oldie, and some more contemporary music for the more
contemporary among us. Yes, we’ll also have a bar at our usual low prices, but this time the hotel will spare us the learning curve and supply real bartenders. And we’re even going to have a couple of raffles, which will be drawn throughout the evening. Your party ticket gives you an entry into a drawing for a romantic night at the Melia, and you can buy tickets (cheap) for the regular raffle as well. We’ll probably have more details on that soon.
OK, I
saved the best for last— the menu. I promise you, no more hotdogs, or pulled pork tacos without the pulled pork. This time you’ll have some tough choices to make, but hey, it’s a buffet, you can try it all! Take a look:
