Hello everyone… This has certainly been an interesting and somewhat frantic week or so in Chiang Mai. Driving around the city continues to be challenging in places, and people and businesses are still dealing with the incredible amount of mud left behind by the floodwater, and of course the damage caused by the water
itself. I think it’s safe to say it will be a long time before the visible evidence of what we hope will be a once-in-a-lifetime event is gone. It’s also safe to say the memories never will be.
On a different note, be sure to read the information below about the annual picnic/BBQ. Things have definitely changed. Finally, before we know it January will be here, which means it’s time to think about elections to the Board of Directors. Any member who joined prior to July 25, 2024, is eligible to run
for a position on the Board. All it takes is a completed nomination form returned to us by the 4th Saturday in November, which this year is the 23rd. The nomination form requires the signatures of two sponsors, who must be members in good standing who joined the CEC prior to October 1, 2024. Elections, if necessary, will be conducted at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on January 25, 2025. Currently there are 4 open
positions on the Board. If there are 4 or fewer new valid nominations, there will be no election and all nominees will automatically become Board members at the conclusion of the AGM. If there are more than 4 valid nominations, all current members of the Board, as well as all nominees, will stand for election on a single ballot at the AGM. The top 11 vote-getters will comprise the new Board. The entire process is described
in the CEC Bylaws, which are available on the website at chiangmaiexpatsclub.com. If you would like a nomination form please email us at info@chiangmaiexpatsclub.com and we'll send you one. The club needs people willing to give a little of their time, this is a great and often fun way to do it. Please,
give it your consideration. That’s it, I hope all is well, and please be safe. -Kent

CEC Annual Picnic/BBQ November 2
The recent record-setting floods in Chiang Mai took a severe toll on ticket sales for the annual Picnic/BBQ, scheduled for November 2. After a survey of our members, discussions with our hosts at Horizon Village Resort, and finally a meeting of the Board of Directors, it was decided to postpone the event until January 4, 2025. The bright side is the holidays will be over, our seasonal members should be at a peak, and we can expect fabulous weather. One of our Board members commented that maybe we should always have it in January, and that might not be such a bad idea. If you have purchased a ticket for
this event and want to use it in January you don’t need to do a thing, we will automatically honor it on the 4th. If you will not be able to attend just email us at info@chiangmaiexpatsclub.com and request a refund. We regret the sudden change, it was simply the right thing to do under the circumstances. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you
in January!
No General Meeting for October
The Duangtawan Hotel suffered considerable damage during the recent flooding. The common areas were spared, but their electrical control room was totally flooded, leaving them without power in the building until the equipment could be repaired or replaced. They plan to be open by the end of the month but not in time for our General
Meeting. This close to the event we have decided the wise thing to do is cancel the meeting for this month, so our next General Meeting will be on November 23rd. Tickets purchased for the October meeting will be honored at the November meeting. If you are unable to attend the November meeting please email us at info@chiangmaiexpatsclub.com for a refund. Thanks for your understanding.

IT'S ON FOR NOVEMBER 2! Here’s some good news to cheer you up. Because of the date change of the annual Picnic/BBQ, there will now be Saturday Breakfast at The Duke’s on November 2. There isn’t much time and this is a hugely popular event which often sells out, so use the button the button below to reserve your seat(s) now. As usual, we realize plans often change, so if you make a reservation and then are unable to attend, please send us a quick email to info@chiangmaiexpatsclub.com and give us the full names of those on your reservation who will not be able to make it. As long as you send it by 9:00am the
morning of the breakfast you’ll avoid the penalty box! Thanks in advance for your cooperation, it makes it possible for others to enjoy the breakfast.

A couple of months ago at our General Meeting, Chris Smith, who heads up the Geeks Club in Chiang Mai, and who is perhaps our longest tenured active member (#21 out of 2000+), started our Learning Series with an interesting and informative look at A.I. The presentation was videoed and we thought you might like to take a look at it, particularly if you were not there to
experience it in person. Enjoy!
Tax Filing and Personal Tax planning is still keeping American International Tax Advisers team busy during this time of year. Feel free to contact Chris by email or call 094-681-9734 for a free consultation. TestimonialThe AITax Advisers were knowledgeable about the unique challenges and requirements for expats, and they helped
me navigate the complexities of filing my taxes from abroad. They were also able to identify deductions and credits that I wasn't aware of, which ended up significantly reducing my tax bill.Overall, the process was much smoother than I anticipated, and I feel confident that my taxes were filed accurately and in compliance with all US tax laws. I will definitely be using this service again in the future and recommending it to other expats in my
network. |

American International Tax Advise Seminar
Hosted by CMCC
Mr.Thomas Carden of the American International Tax Advisors, in Bangkok, has agreed to give a presentation to anyone interested in learning more about the new Thai tax laws that were enacted in 2023 for tax foreigners living in Thailand. This Tax law became effective on 1 January 2024. If you have questions about how to prepare for this new tax on foreigners in Thailand, Mr. Carden will be able to answer those questions. We will meet this Saturday, the 28th of September, on the 2nd floor of the Raintree Building at 2 p.m. There is no charge for this question-and-answer time, but be aware that they are looking for new clients to do things like register for your tax ID number and prepare the necessary papers you need to file for the 2024 tax period. They may make a pitch
for that, but you are under no obligation just because you attended this free Q&A. Please come if you have questions. Coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided.
You are welcome to arrive without registering due to the short
notice we've given, but if you plan to attend and could email Visual Credits: AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL TAX ADVISERS, Bangkok |

The Chiang Mai Expats Club (CEC) publishes various types of information for the purpose of helping fellow expats become acclimated and thrive in Chiang Mai. While we try to keep such information current and accurate, we do not have sufficient resources to provide assurance as to timeliness and accuracy. We advise members to confirm the information for themselves.
