Hello everyone… I want to start with an apology. In wishing everyone a great holiday season last week a reader pointed out that I failed to mention Kwanzaa or Hanukkah. It was an oversight, I apologize to anyone who may have been offended. A while back we asked for ideas on
how to make the club better, attract new members, and keep members engaged. We received a number of responses, most of which offered insightful ideas. It was interesting to me that the majority of responses came from non-members who receive our newsletter, rather than from members. While we realize there is somewhat of a cyclical pattern to membership that over time results in less participation within the club, I expected members to lead the way with suggestions. I was
wrong. We followed that up with an idea to have, for lack off a better term, a focus group, to help us sort through the ideas that had been offered and to brainstorm new ones. We stated up front that it would be a single meeting lasting about 2 hours. It was disappointing that not one member offered to participate in that session. Not one. We’re not giving up, but obviously we will have to figure out a way to
accomplish our goals without member help. It would have been a lot easier, and probably more productive to have more people involved, but it’s clear there is little interest from our members in being a part of that. If you read either of the last two newsletters you probably saw the list of club email addresses I included as part of my message. They did generate some activity, which is great, and I hope they will help to make
everyone feel more in touch with the club. I’ve taken them out of my message this week, but you’ll find them now in their own section below. They will remain as a permanent part of the newsletter and I strongly encourage you to use them. Don’t forget, there’s still time to reserve the few remaining seats for the Saturday Breakfast on the 7th. Remember, those showing up without a reservation will be asked to wait
outside until those with reservations have been seated, so save yourself the trouble and use the button below to make your reservation. That’s it, I hope all is well, and please be safe. -Kent

CEC Annual Picnic/BBQ Jan. 4, 2025
Due to the recent record-setting floods in Chiang Mai it was decided to move the event to January 4, 2025. The holidays will be over, our seasonal members should be at a peak, and we can expect fabulous weather. One of our Board members
commented that maybe we should always have it in January, and that might not be such a bad idea. If you purchased a ticket for this event when it was scheduled for November and want to use it in January you don’t need to do a thing, we will automatically honor it on the 4th. If you haven't attended this event in the past you've missed some really great food from our friends at The Duke's. This year it's a full-fledged western BBQ, with something for everyone and lots of it. Check out the list of items below, it's mouthwatering to say the least!
The Duke's Picnic/BBQ Menu
Barbeque Ribs Hamburgers Cheeseburgers Bratwurst BBQ Sausage Wing Station Chicken Wings 4 Sauces Nacho/Taco Station Corn Tortillas Flour Tortillas Chips Roasted Pork Chipotle Chicken Salsas Guacamole Cheese Jalapenos Sides Mac 'n Cheese Baked Beans Mexican Roasted Poutatos Corn on the Cob Coleslaw Potato Salad Caesar Salad Mixed Fruit Apple Pie
For Your Enjoyment Cocktails - low, low prices! Beer - dirt cheap! Soft Drinks Water
A few years ago we partnered with our friends at the Chiang Mai Rotary Club to conduct their Golf Ball Drop at our Picnic. It was a great addition to the day and we're happy to have them back again this year. It's the annual fundraiser for their youth charities and you can get in on the fun! A maximum of 300
numbered golf balls will be dropped from a hot air balloon, with cash prizes going to the 3 balls closest to the "hole". Balls cost 1000 baht each and can be purchased at the December 7th Saturday Breakfast at The Duke's, and at the picnic. First prize is 30,000 baht, and your chances of winning are infinitely better than playing the lottery. There will also be a full-size hot air balloon inflated on the ground for the kids to play in, which judging from the past is a huge hit.
Up-and-down balloon rides will also be available for a small fee, it's a great way to view the entire resort and get a photo or two. Purchase your tickets to the picnic now and save. Members and Non-members alike save 150 baht per ticket when purchased by December 27th, use this button to buy your tickets and join us for a wonderful day at the park on January 4th.
Annual General Meeting - January 25
Since we do not hold a General Meeting in December due to the holidays, our next meeting will be on January 25, 2025. Because it's the first meeting of the year it's also our Annual Meeting, which will include a "State of the Club" message, and a financial report for 2024. We would also conduct elections, if necessary, but since we don't have more than 11
people seeking positions on the Board no elections will be necessary. Further details will be forthcoming, and tickets will go on sale next week.
Prior to our most recent General Meeting, Chris Smith published a QR code for a LINE Health Group, which is available to all CEC members. We're leaving it here in the event anyone would like to take advantage of it.
Join the dedicated LINE Health Group to receive past presentation materials and join the discussion with fellow expats. Whether you're tech-savvy or just getting started, you'll come away with practical solutions for better managing your health in Thailand. To join, you must first log in to your LINE account, and then scan the QR code above to join the group.

The next Saturday Breakfast is just days away and it's never too late to make reservations. November was a sellout and December will undoubtedly be the same, which means anyone without a reservation will not be seated until space becomes available. It could be a long wait as all those with a reservation will be seated
before any walk-ins. A reservation also saves you some money so please use the button below to reserve your seat(s) now. Pricing is 345 with a reservation, 445 at the door and subject to waiting outside for available space. Kids 12 and under are always 245. They also use a chair, so be sure to include your kids in your reservation. As usual, we realize plans often change, so if you make a reservation and then are unable to attend, please send a quick email to info@chiangmaiexpatsclub.com and give us the full names of those on your reservation who will
not be able to make it. As long as you send it by 9:00am the morning of the breakfast you’ll avoid the penalty box! Thanks in advance for your cooperation, it makes it possible for others to enjoy the breakfast.

Member Photography, Poetry and Humor Haiku and photo by Olga Leskiw-Suzuki
A few months ago at our General Meeting, Chris Smith, who heads up the Geeks Club in Chiang Mai, and who is perhaps our longest tenured active member (#21 out of 2000+), started our Learning Series with an interesting and informative look at A.I. The presentation was videoed and we thought you might like to take a look at it, particularly if you were not there to experience it
in person. Enjoy!

Tax Filing and Personal Tax planning is still keeping American International Tax Advisers team busy during this time of year. Feel free to contact Chris by email or call 094-681-9734 for a free consultation. TestimonialThe AITax Advisers were knowledgeable about the unique challenges and requirements for expats, and they helped
me navigate the complexities of filing my taxes from abroad. They were also able to identify deductions and credits that I wasn't aware of, which ended up significantly reducing my tax bill.Overall, the process was much smoother than I anticipated, and I feel confident that my taxes were filed accurately and in compliance with all US tax laws. I will definitely be using this service again in the future and recommending it to other expats in my
network. |
