I gave an update at our last GM on where we stand following the loss of Dave McComas, so I thought it would be worthwhile to share it here as well.
As you may or may not know, Dave wore a number of club hats, most of which we just took for granted. Replacing him
in those roles, and getting all the various software accounts he controlled changed to a new Administrator has proved to be a monumental task. We’ve been working on it continuously, and as of this writing we only have one left to go. We’re 90% there on that one, it will be a relief to get it all behind us. As you might imagine, that’s a monumental understatement.
Dave’s primary responsibilities were as our Treasurer and
bookkeeper, and as the editor/publisher of our newsletter. He was heavily involved on our Events committee, and worked with our Donations committee as well. He also monitored our info@ mailbox, and served as moderator of our Facebook page. The trick has been to find people to fill all those roles. I wish I could say we’ve done that, and although we now have short-term solutions for everything we need to find more permanent
replacements.
Obviously, the critical role Dave filled was as our Treasurer and bookkeeper. As such he had control of our bank accounts, which we now have complete access to and control of. Rick Hahn is filling in as Treasurer/bookkeeper until someone else steps up for that role, and just to ensure ourselves everything is on the up and up, we will have an independent accounting service review the books. Fortunately
though, from a financial standpoint we are very sound. The accounts appear to be in order, so from an operating standpoint it’s business as usual. I should also tell you that at the end of our fiscal year we will have a thorough review conducted again by an outside agency. Thankfully, Dave left us in great shape, we’re extremely grateful for that.
So now we continue to move on and move forward. Plans are in place for
the Flu Shot event, which comes up September 24, and for the annual picnic, which is set for November 2. Details on the flu shot event are below, and soon we will begin promoting the picnic. In between we have Saturday Breakfast at the Duke’s on September 7, and our next GM will be September 28. We’re also hoping to add a Social at Krusty’s in October, just to round things out. Keep your eye out here for all the details!
That’s it, I hope all is well, and please be safe.

Weekly Survey
Prior to Covid we used to have a book exchange at our General Meetings. It was simple, you found a book you liked, took it home and read it, and then returned it. This week's survey is about whether or not to bring back this popular program. It's just two quick questions, please take a minute and give us your opinion. Thanks!
Join us for the best breakfast/brunch buffet in Thailand!

DATE: September 24, 2024
LOCATION: Bangkok Hospital Saraphi Clinic
TIME: 1:00pm to 6:00pm
COST: 650 baht per shot (plus 20 baht ticket fee) - no other charges
LAST DAY TO BUY TICKET(S): September 17 - no exceptions
Tickets absolutely must be purchased by September 17th. It’s the government thing again, there is record-keeping involved and they need time to process the paperwork and prepare the doses.
The event is open to CEC members and their families. If you know of someone outside your family that needs the shot you are welcome to include them as well, however the tickets MUST be purchased by a CEC member. Also, a separate ticket is required for each person receiving a shot. Also required for each person is a copy of their passport page, which must be sent to info@chiangmaiexpatsclub.com NO LATER than September 17th. It is not necessary to sign the copy of the passport, it will require your original signature so you will be asked to sign it when you get to the clinic.
There is plenty of parking available at the Saraphi Clinic for those who choose to drive.
If you prefer, Bangkok Hospital is offering free shuttle service to and from the clinic from the Duangtawan Hotel, but you must let us know by September 17 if you would like to use the service.
This is a really great opportunity, I hope as many people possible will take advantage of it. The price is extremely competitive, and there will be NO additional charges (doctor visit fees, nursing fees, etc.). Use the button below to
purchase your ticket(s), and don’t forget to send a copy of the passport photo for each person to info@chiangmaiexpatsclub.com by September 17th.
This survey was recently published and rapidly became the survey with the most responses in club history. That's great, and we thank you for it, but we need even more. It's critical to helping us with our future planning, so if you haven't taken it already please do it now.
It's only three questions and will take you one minute or less. What's more, to give you an incentive we will choose two lucky winners from all the respondents, who will receive a certificate redeemable for purchasing access to the End of Life videos (worth 1000 baht!!!). Or, if the winners already have access to the videos, they may choose to receive a free ticket to either a Saturday Breakfast at The Duke’s, or to a CEC
General Meeting. Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play, so please hit the button below and help us out.

Testimonial
The AITax Advisers were knowledgeable about the unique challenges and requirements for expats, and they helped me navigate the complexities of filing my taxes from abroad. They were also able to identify deductions and credits that I wasn't aware of, which ended up significantly reducing my tax bill.
Overall, the process was much smoother than I anticipated, and
I feel confident that my taxes were filed accurately and in compliance with all US tax laws. I will definitely be using this service again in the future and recommending it to other expats in my network.
